Attack

When making an attack, the player controlling the attacking model will perform these steps:

  1. Select Target
  2. Place Bids
  3. Determine Range
  4. Determine Combat Scores
  5. Determine Damage

If the attacking model has more than one weapon, only one may normally be selected for use when making an attack. In some cases models may use more than one weapon, in which case the select target step is made for each weapon before resolving the rest of the steps in any order the controlling player wishes.

Select Target

Visible Target

Line of sight to a target is determine if any part of the attacking model can see any part of the target model while on its target base or as if it were:

  • on the source base
  • on a waypoint base
  • anywhere along the path between source, waypoint, and target bases

If targeting a path between the bases, there is a +1 to the target’s defense score.

Line of sight must exist between two models for one to perform an attack action on the other. If there is any obscurement between the two models, then that will cause the defending model to receive a +1 to its defense score.

Target Priority

If the target model for an attack is the closest visible enemy model, then the attacking model will receive a +1 to its attack score.

Place Bids

Both players may place bids in order to boost their anticipated scores. These bids will use any number of command tokens the players have allocated to the models involved.

See Bidding

Determine Range

Measure the distance between the attacker’s base and the target’s base (or the point on the path targeted). This is the attack distance.

Comparison Effect
attack distance larger than twice attacking weapon range attacker gains a stun marker and the attack fails
attack distance larger than attacking weapon range attacker gains a stun marker and the target recevies a +2 defense score
attack distance smaller than half attacking weapon range attacker gains a +1 attack score

Determine Combat Scores

Attack Score

The attack score is the total of the attacking model’s attack attribute plus any modifiers.

If any command tokens were bid on the attack, those are revealed now. Increase the attack score by 1 for each command point revealed.

If the target currently has any stun markers, add 1 to the attack score.

Defense Score

the defense score is the total of the defending model’s defense attribute plus any modifiers.

If any command tokens were bid on defense, those are revealed now. Increase the defense score by 1 for each command point revealed.

If the attacking model currently has any stun markers, add 1 to the defense score.

Determine Damage

See Determining Damage

Any models within a distance equal to the Attack Score of an attacker receive an additional stun marker.

Interrupting Attacks

If a player has any command points available, they may interrupt this process in one of two points.

When selected as a target for an attack and that target model hasn’t performed any actions this turn, the target’s controlling player may spend a command point to perform a move action immediately. The attack then proceeds as normal, but the attacker may only choose the target’s source base and the target receives a +1 to its defense score.

When combat scores have been determined and if the target model hasn’t performed any actions this turn, the target’s controlling player may spend a command point to make an attack action that must target the attacking model. Stop processing this attack and resolve this new attack immediately, then resume this attack.

In either case the target unit will have performed its action and will not activate again this turn.

Composite Models

When a composite model makes an attack, only the parts of it with weapons may do so and line of sight is determined from that part of the model.

When a composite model is the target of an attack, the attacking player may declare which part is the target during the select target step. If they do not do so, then the target model’s controlling player chooses.
